Future of the EFSG

We are in the process of improving the EFSG. The DoE has received feedback that the information has not been well structured and is not responsive enough to industry practice. Additionally, we understand that version control can be better managed.

We have established a EFSG Reform team who are tasked with bringing the EFSG into 2025 and beyond. This work is currently underway.

Concurrently with the improvements to SINSWs Infrastructure Standards is the exciting addition of the Pattern Book - a more streamlined way to design and deliver new and upgraded NSW schools.

Key improvements

  • More relevant : Providing ongoing annual updates to the Infrastructure Standards will keep information regularly reviewed and appropriate.
  • Agile and responsive: The EFSG will become a ‘living document’. When changes are required, we will be able to adapt quickly.
  • Collaborative: We are committed to working with EFSG users, school communities and industry experts to incorporate feedback and build strong partnerships.

Ongoing updates

Given the depth and breadth of the topic areas in the EFSG across all school types, and covering major projects to small roof repairs, this is a significant task.

The initial release in 2025 will only be the first phase of the overall update program of works for the standards. The Standards Reform team are aware of many required changes that will not make the first release but will be scheduled to be streamed-into future releases of SI’s Infrastructure Standards.
