The Minns Labor Government is delivering more public schools for growing communities in Sydney’s North West – with construction now underway on the permanent Nirimba Fields Public School.

The new permanent facilities will meet the needs of the growing Nirimba Fields community with modern facilities for 1,000 students. These will include 44 classrooms, three support learning rooms, a multipurpose hall for sports and performance, a library, canteen, and covered outdoor learning area (COLA).

As part of the NSW Government’s commitment to expanding access to early childhood education, an on-site public preschool will also be built offering up to 60 fee-free places for local children.

The new permanent school facilities open in Term 3 next year, with the preschool on track to welcome its first cohort on Day 1, Term 1, 2027.

Since the start of 2024, Nirimba Fields Public School students have been learning in temporary facilities fast-tracked by the Minns Labor Government as an urgent stop-gap measure to cater for student enrolment growth in the area while the permanent facilities are built.

Located at the corner of Triton Parade and Nabthorpe Parade in Nirimba Fields, the temporary facilities and grassed play spaces occupy approximately 40 per cent of the site, allowing for uninterrupted learning while construction progresses on the permanent school.

The new, permanent Nirimba Fields Public School will complement a raft of new schools fast-tracked and opened to students in Sydney’s north west by the Minns Labor Government after more than a decade of neglect by the Liberals and Nationals.

These include the new permanent Melonba Public School and Melonba High School, and the new temporary Box Hill Public School all opening on Day 1 Term 1 2025.

Construction is also underway on the new permanent Tallawong Public School which opened in temporary facilities last year.

Plans to deliver a new primary school in Gables and a new high school for Schofields and Tallawong are also progressing, along with major upgrades nearing completion at Castle Hill Public School and Matthew Pearce Public School, with future upgrades slated for Rouse Hill High School and Schofields Public School.

These projects are part of the Minns Labor Government's plan to rebuild public education, with the 2024-25 Budget delivering record education funding, including $3.6 billion for new and upgraded schools in Western Sydney.

This targeted investment will ensure families in growing suburbs like Nirimba Fields get access to a world-class public education.

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car said:

“The Minns Labor Government is committed to breaking the backlog of critical school infrastructure needed in Western Sydney and providing growing communities with world class public schools.

“With Sydney’s North West exploding in growth, this milestone is a critical step to ensure every child, no matter where they live, has access to a quality education.

“With a dedicated preschool on-site, we are also ensuring children can access high-quality early learning and transition smoothly into primary school with new friends by their side.”

Member for Riverstone, Warren Kirby, said:

“This community is growing fast, and this school is an essential investment to ensure our kids have the best possible start to their education.

“The Minns Labor Government is listening to families and delivering the infrastructure our region needs, and I look forward to seeing this project come to life.”

Nirimba Fields Public School Principal Renai Diamond said:

“This is an exciting step forward for our students, teachers, and the entire Nirimba Fields community.

“Our temporary school has provided a wonderful start for our students, but these new permanent facilities will give them even more opportunities to learn and grow in a modern, purpose-built environment.

“Our students and staff are eager to see the school take shape, and we look forward to moving into our new facilities in 2026.”
