New public preschools on the way for western Sydney families
Parents in Sydney's west will soon be able to send their children to one of 40 new preschools to be colocated with existing public schools.
14 April 2025

Thousands of families in Sydney’s west are a step closer to sending their children to a new public preschool, with the Minns Labor Government awarding contracts for the design and construction of more than 40 new public preschools, co-located with existing public schools.
The new public preschools, set to be delivered by early 2027, will offer places for up to 3,600 children a week across Western Sydney, providing fee-free, quality play-based educational programs to give children the best start in life.
The new public preschools in Sydney’s west will join the newly opened Gulyangarri Public Preschool in Liverpool as part of a historic building boom that will deliver 100 new public preschools by 2027, doubling the previous number of public preschools in NSW.
Of the 100 new public preschools, 51 are metropolitan Sydney and 49 are in regional NSW, located in communities identified as most in need following a rigorous independent selection process.
A contract has been awarded to Richard Crookes Constructions to design and construct the 40 public preschools. A list of the locations of the preschools can be found below.
A further 7 preschools will be delivered for families in Oatlands, Melonba, Gables, Greenway Park, Leppington, Melrose Park and Nirimba Fields, with contracts to be awarded later this year.
As the biggest expansion of public preschools in the state’s history, the Minns Labor Government’s rollout of 100 more public preschools will provide access to high quality early learning for up to 9,000 children by 2027.
The Minns Labor Government’s work to rebuild public education includes a record $8.9 billion funding in the 2024-25 Budget for new and upgraded public schools, including the addition of 100 preschools.
Deputy Premier Prue Car, Minister for Education and Early Learning and Minister for Western Sydney, said:
“The Minns Labor Government is on track to deliver the biggest expansion of public preschools in NSW history with contracts now awarded to build 40 new public preschools, co-located with public schools across Western Sydney in areas where they are needed most.
“The NSW Government is committed to improving access to free quality public preschool for our littlest learners because we know how crucial the early stage is for a child’s development.
“I look forward to construction getting underway across Western Sydney and the remaining contracts awarded shortly.”
