This scholarship is open to teachers currently teaching in NSW schools, TAFE NSW campuses, or NSW early childhood education and care services, with preference given to those with current or previous teaching experience in rural and remote locations in NSW, or in providing distance education.
The scholarship is for a study in any aspect of rural and remote education. It is aimed at supporting educational research or projects that can focus on topics relating to rural and remote education, including:
- exemplary practices and effective educational strategies tailored to rural and remote areas
- effective professional development approaches that benefit educators in rural and remote areas, fostering growth and enhancing teaching quality in these unique settings
- programs for educators which focus on improving Aboriginal education by aligning with priority areas within the Closing the Gap framework. This may include investigating programs that support positive transitions throughout schooling and into vocational training or higher education, research on barriers Aboriginal students may face in accessing quality education in rural and remote areas, and exploring the impact of integrating Aboriginal languages, cultures, and histories in the curriculum
- studies or projects that examine and integrate new technologies or innovative teaching trends in ways that demonstrate a clear benefit to rural and remote education. These could include case studies or evidence from schools already incorporating such trends.
The successful applicant will undertake a study tour of up to 5 weeks internationally or within Australia. Study tour travel is to be completed in one block between 1 January and 30 June 2026, with follow-up activities and reporting to be completed within 90 days of study tour completion.
Time may involve formal study, for example, undertaking a short course at a respected tertiary institution, or a program of visits to sites, schools and institutions to conduct interviews, observe exemplary practices and collect resources for the preparation of teaching materials related to the specific scholarship category.
The Scholarship Terms and Conditions apply to all NSW Premier's Teacher Scholarships. Applicants should refer to the FAQs for applicants when preparing and submitting an application. As part of the online application, applicants must upload their research and study tour proposal along with the Endorsement of Application form. Researching and writing an application may count as professional development to help maintain your accreditation. For more information, refer to NESA’s professional development requirements for teachers.
One scholarship of $15,000 will be offered for travel during 2026.
