Arrival and departure times to and from the school were very worrying to Gordon West Public School students and staff, so the Student Representative Council (SRC) decided to take action.

Consulting with the local council, the department’s Road Safety Education Officer and teachers, the SRC was supported in creating a campaign plan to address and promote safe travel to and from school.

Their actions resulted in:

• increased street signage installed by the council
• displays of student-developed signage
• delivery of a whole-school safety awareness day
• production of a video written, filmed and edited by the SRC. Parts of the video are presented bilingually to ensure a greater reach within their school community.
