Northmead CAPA High School get active
How do you get more teenage students walking and riding to school? By giving them the opportunity to solve the puzzle, that's how!
Northmead Creative and Performing Arts High School in western Sydney has come up a with a great initiative to encourage students to walk or ride to school along three designated travel routes every Wednesday.
The Student Representative Council led the project by:
- partnering with Western Sydney Local Health District and Parramatta Council to find three safe routes to school
- engaging students and teachers to design and build new bike racks
- working with students to design and produce an advertising campaign.
The success of the initiative is summed up perfectly by Gabby in Year 11 who said,
"It's great because you are more awake when you get to school and it's a great way to get physical activity into your day".
As the saying goes, a picture speaks a 1000 words so look at their photos to see their brilliant results.
