Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program

Join the NSW Department of Education School Counselling Service as a school psychologist.

Your role

The NSW Department of Education is the largest education provider in Australia with over 2,200 schools and over 800,000 students, and it is one of the largest employers of psychologists in NSW.

As a school psychologist within our school counselling service, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of students from Kindergarten to year 12 in a variety of school settings.

You will work as part of a team of professionals, applying your psychological expertise to guide and support students to thrive and succeed.

School psychologists:

  • provide counselling to students individually and in groups.
  • assess students with specific wellbeing and learning needs.
  • collaborate with education and external practitioners, families, and other agencies to provide multidisciplinary student mental health support.
  • contribute to the social, emotional, and academic development of students in consultation with families and school staff.
Psychology graduates wishing to attain their Master in Professional Psychology and secure guaranteed employment with the department can apply for the Psychology Graduate Scholarship Program

Scholarship benefits

  • up to $35,000 tuition allowance for full-time, full fee-paying students
  • up to $10,000 appointment allowance, depending on appointment location
  • $1,500 textbook and incidentals allowance
  • $4,000 placement allowance
  • supervised practicum placements in schools
  • ongoing professional support to complete psychologist registration requirements, including provision of the supervised internship
  • on graduation you receive employment as a school psychologist in NSW public schools.

Eligibility

To apply for the scholarship, you will have:

  • met the requirements for and submitted an application to undertake the Master of Professional Psychology (School Psychology) program at either:
  • a willingness to work in areas of identified need
  • NSW Working with Children Check clearance or be able to obtain one
  • Australian citizenship, permanent residency or New Zealand citizenship
  • a current and valid driver's licence with permission to drive by one-self.

Following a review of the department’s vaccination mandate, from 9 October 2023, staff working in schools for specific purpose (SSPs), Assisted Travel Support Officers (ATSOs) and Assisted Travel Program (ASTP) drivers are no longer required to be double-vaccinated against COVID-19 or hold a medical contraindication.

Staff working in hospitals and Juvenile Justice Centre school will still be required to comply with the vaccination requirements as determined by NSW Health and the Department of Communities and Justice respectively.
