Celebrate NAIDOC: Always Was, Always Will Be
NAIDOC Week will run from the 8 – 15 November this year and is a great opportunity to explore Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander perspectives in your services.
27 October 2020
There are so many ways to celebrate NAIDOC week even in a COVID safe environment and we’d love to hear what your service is planning to do. To let us know please tag our Facebook page or send an email either before or after your celebrations so we can share your ideas with other services.
We’ve also put together some resources below to help your services get involved during NAIDOC Week or any other week:
- Listen to Indigenous musicians or watch children’s screen content that celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, such as the award-winning animation Little J & Big Cuz.
- Display the NAIDOC 2020 poster in your service.
- Learn the meanings of local or national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander place names and words.
- Hold a flag raising ceremony.
- Run a yarning circle as part of your day; check out this site for guidelines and information.
- Use the Narragunnawali suite of early learning resources to promote reconciliation and to strengthen children’s knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions.
- Visit Creative Spirits website to learn the history of NAIDOC week and a list of suggested activities.
