Unique Student Identifier

Everyone who is doing a nationally-recognised vocational education and training (VET) course in Australia needs a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

What is a USI?

It’s like an account number, with 10 numbers and letters. It looks something like: 3AW88YH9U5.

You only need one USI, and it's yours for life. You can use it whenever you choose to do training through VET.

The USI also lets you access your records for all the VET qualifications that you achieve from 1 January 2015 onwards. This is useful if you're asked to provide your training records when applying for a job or enrolling in other courses.

You need to provide your USI to a training provider when you enrol.

How to get a USI

You can apply to obtain your USI online by following the steps on the USI website.

You can also ask your training provider to help you if you need to.
