VET student loans

If you enrol in a government-subsidised Diploma or Advanced Diploma under Smart and Skilled, you may be eligible to access an Australian Government loan to pay your student fees.

VET Student Loans help eligible vocational education and training (VET) students cover the cost of their fees for selected approved courses with an approved training provider.

You can only apply for a loan if you are studying a course on the Approved Course List. Each course also has a cap on the maximum amount of money you can borrow.

VET Student Loans are provided by the Australian Government, not the NSW State Government.

You'll only need to repay the loan when you reach a defined income level.

Who can apply?

To receive a VET Student Loan for Smart and Skilled training, you need to meet both the Smart and Skilled eligibility criteria and the Australian Government VET Student Loans eligibility criteria.

Which courses are eligible for VET Student Loans under Smart and Skilled?

Your chosen course must be offered under Smart and Skilled and also be eligible for VET Student Loans.

Government-subsidised courses offered under Smart and Skilled can be searched on Skills Compare.

The Australian Government lists the courses which are approved for the VET Student Loans program on the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations website. The Approved Course List also shows you the maximum amount that you can borrow for each qualification.

Which training providers offer VET Student Loans under Smart and Skilled?

Training providers must be approved by the Australian Government to participate in the VET Student Loans program. They must also be approved in NSW to deliver Smart and Skilled training.

You should ask your preferred Smart and Skilled provider if they are approved to deliver courses under the VET Student Loans program.
