Eligibility criteria
Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas) for Temporary Teachers
To be eligible to apply for a Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas) for Temporary Teachers, an applicant must:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- have a current permanent teaching approval with the NSW Department of Education
- be one of the following:
- a permanent teacher who holds a substantive permanent position in a KLA other than teacher librarian, careers adviser or English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) but are relieving in one of these specialist teaching roles at a minimum 0.6 FTE for 6 months in a NSW public school; or
- currently engaged on a 12-month temporary contract in a teacher librarian, careers adviser or EAL/D teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) in a NSW public school
- be continuing or commencing an approved postgraduate qualification in teacher librarianship, career education, EAL/D or TESOL, in Semester 1, 2025, to be completed by no later than end of 2026
- be willing to enter into a Scholarship Agreement, a legally binding agreement that outlines the responsibilities of both the scholarship recipient and the department
- be willing to complete the required studies within the agreed time frame (maximum of 2 years)
- be committed to actively seeking employment within NSW public schools in the specialist teaching area of their scholarship.
Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas) for Appointed Teachers
To be eligible to apply for a Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas) for Appointed Teachers, an applicant must:
- be an Australian citizen or permanent resident
- be one of the following:
- be recommended for a permanent teacher librarian, careers adviser or English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) in a NSW public school following merit selection and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in teacher librarianship, career education, EAL/D or TESOL
- be permanently appointed to a permanent teacher librarian, careers adviser or EAL/D teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) in a NSW public school and be currently undertaking, or planning to enrol in the next semester, in an approved postgraduate qualification in teacher librarianship, career education, EAL/D or TESOL
- be willing to enter into a Scholarship Agreement, a legally binding agreement that outlines the responsibilities of both the scholarship recipient and the department
- be willing to complete the required studies within the agreed time frame specified as part of their conditions of permanent employment
- be willing to remain in their current permanent teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) following completion of studies for a minimum period of 3 years.
