About the Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas)
Find out if the Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas) could support you to acquire additional competencies in one of the following specialist teaching areas:
Financial support
- $20,000 per year of full-time study
- Paid study leave whilst completing a practicum and up to 8 additional days of study leave per academic year.
Professional Development
- Upskill as a Teacher Librarian, Careers Adviser or English as an Additional Language/Dialect teacher
Transferrable skills
- Develop transferrable skills that will enable you to teach in a variety of school settings
Eligibility
- Temporary teachers who hold a current permanent teaching approval with the NSW Department of Education
- Permanent teachers with the NSW Department of Education

Temporary Teachers
The Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas) for Temporary Teachers – Scholarships for studies commencing in Semester 1, 2025 are available for teachers currently employed in a temporary specialist teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) or relieving in a specialist teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE).

Appointed Teachers
The Teach and Learn Scholarship (Specialist Teaching Areas) for Appointed Teachers – Scholarships are available for teachers recommended for a permanent specialist teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) following merit selection or permanently appointed to a specialist teaching position (minimum 0.6 FTE) and who are required to undertake further studies as a condition of employment.
There is no closing date for the appointed teachers pathway. Applications are accepted all year round.
