Requirements to become a qualified teacher librarian in NSW public schools include:
- be an approved primary or secondary teacher with the NSW Department of Education
- complete an approved postgraduate program at master’s degree level in teacher librarianship.*
The following is an approved postgraduate program**:
- Charles Sturt University - Master of Education (Teacher Librarianship)
*Following completion of this qualification, teachers may be approved as a teacher librarian (K - 12) where the teacher seeks to be considered for appointment to teacher librarian roles in primary, central, secondary and community schools.

Requirements to become a qualified careers adviser in NSW public schools include:
- be an approved secondary teacher with the NSW Department of Education
- complete an approved postgraduate program designed to prepare teachers for employment as a careers adviser.

- James Cook University – Graduate Certificate of Career Development
- Queensland University of Technology – Graduate Certificate in Education (Career Development and Counselling)

Requirements to become a qualified EAL/D teacher in NSW public schools include:
- be an approved primary or secondary teacher with the NSW Department of Education
- complete an approved course in EAL/D or TESOL focusing on school-based curriculum which includes a practicum in a school setting for years K - 12.
