I chose to study teaching because I wanted to make a positive impact in the lives of young people. I've felt supported by the NSW Department of Education from the start of my career, and I knew it would be an enriching and rewarding experience. But, what I didn't realize was the opportunities within the department to upskill myself and progress with support.

Early in my career, I considered school leadership, influenced by the excellent leaders around me. I started participating in the department's FASTstream Program, which allowed me to develop my leadership skills and mindset, which will hopefully translate into improved leadership abilities. It's important for teachers to have access to career progression opportunities, because it allows them to expand their influence and make a positive impact on more people.

As a leader, my goal is to serve the people around me, whether it's my students, colleagues, the community, or the parents. I've had the opportunity to work in multiple schools throughout my career, and what remains the same is the passion of the people who work there, the teachers and support staff, who ensure all students are getting the best possible learning experience.

When I see former students, I always ask them if they're happy, and when the answer is yes, it makes me feel fulfilled, regardless of what they're doing. It's priceless, and it keeps me going every single day.
