Melody section A (7:57).
CATHERINE BETTS
Hi, everyone. In this video, we'll be learning section A from "Good For-tunes." We'll be playing the melody part, which sounds like this.
[NOTES PLAYING]
So the first 3 notes we'll be using are C, D, and E. We'll be playing them in this order. C, D, E. Can we try it together? Here's our B. A 1, 2, here we go. C, D, E, E. 1 more time. 1, 2, ready and.
[NOTES PLAYING]
To finish up that bar, we'll add a rest followed by 2 Ds. So the whole bar sounds like this.
[NOTES PLAYING] C, D, E, E. Rest. D. D.
We're going to try that together. Ready? A 1, 2. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
C, D, E, E. Rest. D, D. 1 more time. Here we go.
The next 2 notes we'll be using are E and F. We'll be playing them like this.
[NOTES PLAYING]
E, E, F, E. Can we try that together? Ready, 1, 2. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
E, E, F, E
1 more time. 1, 2, ready and.
So now we need to put those 2 bars together to complete our first phrase. It'll sound like this. A 1, 2. Here I go.
[NOTES PLAYING] C, D, E, E. Rest. D, D, E, E, F, E.
Can we try that all together? Ready? 1, 2, here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Let's try 1 more time. Ready? Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Now our second phrase is going to start off the same as our first with C, D, E, E. Rest. D, D. But this time we have a new ending. It'll use the notes C and D. We'll play it like this.
[NOTES PLAYING]
C, C, D, C. Can we try that together? Ready? A 1, 2. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
C, C, D, C. 1 more time. 1, 2. Ready and.
So let's try our whole second phrase together now. It'll sound like this. A 1, 2. Here I go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
C, D, E, E. Rest. D, D, C, C, D, C.
Try it together. 1, 2. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
1 more time.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Great. Now let's try putting our first 2 phrases together. I'll play it once, and then you can join me. It'll sound like this. A 1, 2. Here I go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
And the second phrase.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Can we try it together? Ready. A 1, 2. From the start.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Second phrase.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Now, our third phrase is a little bit different. We're going to be starting off using the notes, G, E, and D, and we'll be playing them like this.
[NOTES PLAYING]
G, G, E, D. Can we try that pattern together? A 1, 2. Ready and.
[NOTES PLAYING]
G, G, E, D. 1 more Time. 1, 2. Ready? Go.
[NOTES PLAYING] G, G, E, D. Fantastic.
Now in the piece, that needs to happen twice in a row like this.
[NOTES PLAYING]
G, G, E, D. G, G, E, D. So let's try that together. Ready? A 1, 2. Ready, go.
[NOTES PLAYING] G, G, E, D, D, G, E, D. 1 more time. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
And our third phrase finishes with the notes G and A, just like this.
[NOTES PLAYING]
G, G, A, G. Let's try that together. Ready? A 1, 2. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
G, G, A, G. 1 more time.
[NOTES PLAYING]
So when we put that whole phrase together, it'll sound like this. A 1, 2. Here I go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Can we try that together? Ready? A 1, 2. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
1 more time.
[NOTES PLAYING]

[NOTES PLAYING]
C, D, E, E, D, D, C, C, D, C. Can you play that phrase with me? 1, 2. Ready. Go.
[NOTES PLAYING]

[BEAT PLAYING]
All right, let's see if we can keep up. From the start, a 1, 2. A 1, 2, here we go.

CATHERINE BETTS
Hi, everyone. In this video, we'll be learning section B from "Good For-tunes." We'll be playing the melody part, which sounds like this.

[NOTES PLAYING]
G, F, E, D. Second time. Third time. Then I go ti, ti, ta. Ti, ti, ta.

[NOTES PLAYING]
Second time. Third time. Then we go ti, ti, ta. Ti, ti, ta.
Let's practice once more. A 1, 2. Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Now, the second phrase is exactly the same, except for the last bar. Our new rhythm in the last bar is going to be ti, ti, ti, ti, ta, but it's still on D, just like this.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Ti, ti, ti, ti, ta. Now, you would noticed as well I started soft and got louder, which is what we're going to try to do together. Can we try? A 1, 2. Nice and soft.
Ti, ti, ti, ti, ta. 1 more time. 1, 2. Here we go. Ti, ti, ti, ti, ta.

[BEAT PLAYING]
All right, let's see if we can keep up together. Ready? 1, 2. A, 1, 2, Here we go.
[NOTES PLAYING]
Ti, ti, ta. Ti, ti, ta. Ti, ti, ti, ti, ta.

CATHERINE BETTS
Hi, everyone. Let's learn section B from Good For-tunes. We'll be playing the harmony part, which sounds like this.

The last bar, ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta, is going to be forte, a little bit louder. So let's try it together. Ready? 1, 2, here we go. Ti, tika, ti-ti, ta, rest. Last one, then we go ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta. Shall we try it one more time? Ready? 1, 2, mezzo forte. A bit louder.
Great. Now, the second phrase is almost the same, except we're going to change the rhythm of the last bar. We're going to play ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. And we're going to do a crescendo, starting soft, getting louder. It'll sound like this. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Can we try it out together? Ready? 1, 2, nice and soft. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. One more time. 1, 2, ready?
Great. So let's try our second phrase all together from ti, tika, ti-ti, ta. Ready? 1, 2. Here we go. 1, 2, 3. Here's our crescendo. Here we go. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Want to try one more time? Ready? 1, 2, off we go. Crescendo.

[XYLOPHONE CHIMING]
Our first bar is going to be using the notes E and F. And the way that we're going to play it is E, click, E, F, click. So I'll demo that for you. And then let's play it a couple of times together. It'll sound like this. 1, 2, here I go. E, click, E, F, click.
Let's try it together. Ready? Here we go, E, click, E, F, click, one more time, here we go, E, click, E, F, click. Great. Let's try that a little bit faster. Let's try this speed. 1, 2, here we go. E, E, F, one more time. Here we go. E, click, E, F, click.

[XYLOPHONE CHIMING]
Then our ending, ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta. Now, the good news is that the second half of this pattern is almost exactly the same as the first half. We're just going to change the final bar. Now, we're still using the note G. But this time our rhythm is going to be ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.
We're going to play this with the crescendo. So we're going to start quiet. And we're going to get louder as it goes. And that'll sound like this. 1, 2, here I go. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Can we try it together? Ready? Here we go. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. One more time. Here we go. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.

Learn the drum part
Watch the drums teaching videos for section A and section B to learn your part and then practice playing your part with the play-along video.
Drums section A (3:44).
JOSHUA WEBSTER
Hi, everyone. In this video, we are going to be learning section A of Good For-tunes. We're playing the drum part, which sounds like this.
[DRUMMING]
So to play the drum part, we need two different sounds. For me, I'm playing a djembe, so I'm going to have a low sound in the middle and a high sound on the edge. Now, our starting rhythm is ta, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. And we're going to play it as low, high, high, low, low, high.
So if I put that together, I get low, high, high, low, low, high. Can we try that together? 1, 2, here we go. Low, high, high, low, low, high. One more time, here we go. Low, high, high, low, low, high. Now, in the piece, that's going to happen three times in a row without stopping.
So let's give it a go. Ready? 1, 2, here we go. Low, high, high, low, low, high. Second time. Third time. And stop. At this point, we are going to have an ending. And we're going to use the rhythm ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. We're going to play it as low, low, low, low, high, high.
That'll sound like this. 1, 2, here I go. Low, low, low, low, high, high, high. Let's try it together. Ready? 1, 2, here we go. Low, low, low, low, high, high, high. One more time, here we go. Low, Low, low, low, high, high, high.
OK, time now to put together everything we have so far. Now we're going to play our first pattern three times. And it's going to be at a mezzo piano dynamic. This means that it's medium soft. After that, we play our ending pattern once. And this one is forte, nice and strong.
Let's try that together. 1, 2, not too loud. Ta, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Second time. Third time. And the ending nice and loud. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Now, the good news is that the second half is exactly the same as what we've just done.
So let's try that now. We're going to play what we've just done twice in a row. Good luck. 1, 2, not too loud. Ta, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Second time. Third time. Now louder. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Back down. Second time. Third time. And the ending.
Fantastic work. OK, now for our final challenge, we are going to try to play the drum part along with all of the other parts. It's going to be a little bit faster too. It's going to be this fast. Ready? 1, 2, 1, 2, not too loud. 2, 3, and our ending. And again. And our ending.
So that's all you need to know to play section A for Good For-tunes. Happy practicing, and good luck.

Drums section B (5:19).
JOSHUA WEBSTER
Hi, everyone. In this video, we are going to be learning section B of Good For-tunes. I'm playing the drum part, which sounds like this.
[DRUMMING]
So to play the drum part, we need to have two sounds. For me, I'm playing a djembe. And I'm going to have a low sound in the middle of the drum and a high sound on the edge. Now, the first rhythm that we're going to play is ta, ta, ti, tika, t-ti.
We're going to play the tas as low sounds and the ti, tika, ti-ti as high sounds. So when I put that together, that'll sound like this. 1, 2, here I go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti. Let's try that together. Ready? 1, 2, here we go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti. One more time, here we go.
[DRUMMING]
Now, in the piece, that's going to happen three times in a row without stopping. So let's give it a go. Ready? 1, 2, here we go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti. Second time. Third time.
At this point, we are going to play the rhythm ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta. We're going to start our first ti-ti, ta as low sounds and the second ti-ti, ta as high sounds. So that will sound like this. 1, 2, here I go. Ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta. Let's try it together. Ready? Here we go. Ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta.
One more time, here we go. Ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta. So if we put together everything we have so far, we're going to play our first pattern three times. Now, this is going to be at a mezzo forte dynamic, which is medium loud. And then are going to play our final bar once at a forte dynamic, which is nice and strong. Let's try that together. 1, 2, here we go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti.
And here comes the ending, nice and loud. So let's try that one more time. Ready? 1, 2, here we go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti. Second time. Third time. And then the ending. Ti-ti, ta, t-ti, ta.
Now, the good news is that the second half is almost exactly the same as the first half. We are just going to change the final bar. So the final bar's rhythm is going to be ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. We're going to play it as low, low, low, low, high. And we're also going to add a crescendo. We're going to start soft. And we're going to get louder as it goes.
So putting that together, it'll sound like this. 1, 2, here I go. Low, low, low, low, high. Can we try it together? Ready? Here we go. Low, low, low, low, high. One more time, starting soft, low, low, low, low, high. OK, so let's try putting the second half together. Again, we're starting with our first rhythm three times at a mezzo forte dynamic. And then we're playing that last bar once with that crescendo. It'll sound like this.
1, 2, here I go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti. Second time. Third time. And the ending. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. Let's try it together. Ready? Here we go. Ta, ta, ti , tika, ti-ti. Second time. Third time. Ending. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta. One more time, here we go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti. Second time. Third time. Ending.
OK, time now to put all of section B together. Good luck. 1, 2, here we go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti, second time, third time. Here comes our first ending. Ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta. Here comes our second ending. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.
OK, time now to try playing the drum part with all of the other parts. And let's do it a little bit faster. It's going to be this fast. Ready? 1, 2, here we go. Ta, ta, ti, tika, ti-ti. Here comes our first ending. Ti-ti, ta, ti-ti, ta. And our second ending. Ti-ti, ti-ti, ta.
So that's all you need to play section B of Good For-tunes. Happy practicing, and good luck.
