A new approach to teacher housing
30 August 2024
Both the Deputy Premier and Minister for Housing attended an Education Housing Roundtable in Orange on 29 August to drive a new approach to teacher housing.
A deliverable of the tailored housing support key initiative under the Rural and Remote Education Implementation Plan, the roundtable focused on how the two departments can work together to improve housing for teachers across regional, rural and remote NSW.
The session addressed topics such as the condition and supply of properties, as well as development of a strategy to guide future direction.
Quality housing is essential to attract and retain teachers in rural schools and has been identified as a priority by our regional, rural and remote learning communities.

Teacher housing support
29 July 2024
A new teacher housing support (staff only) section has recently been added to the department's intranet to help staff living in teacher housing navigate repairs and maintenance processes.
This is a key piece of work under the tailored housing support key initiative, in response to feedback from our rural and remote schools.
Further work is underway to make information about teacher housing more accessible for current and prospective teachers.
