Design Components
This section of the EFSG provides the information and downloadable content required to design new schools and new school buildings utilising standard hub layouts for each size and type of school. It also provides the information required to deliver an upgrade to existing school assets.
Primary schools
Primary schools provide core facilities including a library, hall and administration hub, alongside general learning spaces for whole-class, group and individual activities. They also include facilities required for operation of support classes.
There are three sizes of primary schools (for new builds) as detailed below.

Secondary schools
Secondary schools provide core facilities including a library, gymnasium and administration hub, as well as a variety of general and specialist learning spaces for whole-class, group and individual activities. They also include facilities required for operation of support classes.
There are four sizes of secondary schools (for new builds) as detailed below.

K-12 schools are an educational model that provide education to students from kindergarten (K) through the 12th grade. These schools are usually within regional context where the scale of community requires a combined Primary and Secondary facility.
These schools have shared or integrated core facilities and caters for any community requirements as well as collaboration with TAFE and early childhood facilities. Alternative names for K-12 schools are central schools or education precincts.
Schools for Specific Purposes (SSPs) provide specialist and intensive support in a dedicated setting for students with moderate to high learning and support needs.
SSPs support students with intellectual disability, mental health issues or autism, students with physical disability or sensory impairment, and students with learning difficulties or behaviour disorder.
They cater for students from kindergarten to Year 12 who meet the Department's disability criteria.
