HS101 General Learning Space Hub
General Learning Space Hubs form the basic core of primary and secondary teaching and learning environments. This group of spaces is commonly used for teaching subjects which do not typically require specialist equipment or resources.
Learning Commons
- Learning Commons to be directly accessible by 4 General Learning Spaces.
- This area can be divided into zones such as practical activities areas, break out spaces, multi-purpose rooms and the like.
- Learning Commons can also be provided as an Outdoor Learning Commons which operates in a similar manner in an outdoor covered and weather protected environment.
General Learning Spaces
- Minimum GLS area is 60sqm clear (UFA).
- The total number of GLS provided is to be determined based on enrolment projections.
- The total GLS count should include all GLSs associated with Specialist Learning Units, senior learning and Additional Learning Units.
- Storage to be included within the GLS as cabinetry (min 6m2 per GLS or equivalent 20 lineal metres of shelving).

The General Learning Space is an adaptable learning space that accommodates a teacher’s desk and sufficient student desks and chairs to enable all to be seated.
The Storage space is dedicated to the storage of learning resources and equipment used within the General Learning Space Hub. This room is predominantly for teacher use or students under supervision.
The Learning Commons is a multipurpose and adaptable learning space with desks, chairs and display partitions for individual to medium sized groups.
The Practical Activities Areas is a multipurpose and adaptable learning space with desks, chairs and display partitions for individual to medium sized groups.
Multipurpose Space is an adaptable area for gatherings of students, staff, parents and community. The area adjoins the learning commons and has durable floor and bench finishes which are easy to clean.
Outdoor Learning Commons adjacent to the Support Learning Hub may be desirable as an alternate, quieter recreation space.
