Student Reporter program
The Game Changer Challenge is looking for newshounds, would-be writers and prospective podcasters for its Student Reporter program.
The program is a fantastic opportunity for media savvy high school students to show off their multimedia skills and polish their reporting talents.
GCC student reporters get:
Exclusive access to mentoring sessions from world-class media and communications gurus
The chance to be published by leading Australian news media outlets
The chance to attend the Game Changer Challenge grand finals in Parramatta
To enjoy the fast-paced fun of covering GCC with support from the Department’s own media teams.
The GCC student reporter program is open to high school students who have a team participating in the GCC. Students who are interested in journalism, writing and/or social media content creation are a great fit for the program. Student reporters should be confident, comfortable speaking to others and be able to work independently and as part of a team. They cannot be a current member of a GCC team.
In 2025, the GCC student reporter program will begin in Term 2, with the first report to be on their school’s GCC team’s experience during Stage 1 of the challenge. Student reporters will follow their team’s journey, with the chance to accompany their team to the grand finals where they will be mentored by world-class media and communications gurus and have the chance to be published by leading Australian news media outlets.
Application details will be published soon.

Being a Student Reporter at the Game Changer Challenge was a life-changing experience for me.
I was able to connect with like-minded students who are equally passionate like me, network with teachers, students and experts during my time, polish my leadership skills by constantly engaging with all the attendees but most importantly I have made some great friends and brought home heaps of memories which I will cherish throughout my life.
Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to contribute.

Last year working on podcasts at the GCC was a super fun and enriching experience for me, and learning from you (the DET podcast team) was a real highlight of 2024. This year, I've been able to put some of the skills that you taught me to good use. I've been consulting First Nations artists and educators as a part of my Aboriginal Studies major work - and knowing how to ask good questions, build rapport, and bounce off of other people's answers has been very useful for maintaining stimulating and interesting discussions!
It's because of you and your incredible teaching abilities that I feel confident in interviewing these wonderful people, and I'm so grateful to you both for the time you invested in me (and the other student reporters!). I can't wait to see how these skills will translate across my other KLAs as I enter Year 11. Thank you once again for your brilliant work.
