Students with disability

The Curriculum Planning and Programming, Assessing and Reporting (CPPAR) policy (section 3.2.5) covers the requirements for reporting on students whose learning is impacted by disability requiring personalised planning and interventions.

Where the student’s learning program is based on syllabus outcomes that are the same as the age/stage of their peers, teachers should use the Common Grade Scale (A-E) or equivalent.

Where adjustments are made to teaching, learning and assessment activities, this should not restrict the student’s access to the full range of grades or marks. Teachers should report on the adjustments made in the comment section.

Schools should not use the Common Grade Scale (A–E) or equivalent for students undertaking Years 7–10 courses based on Life Skills outcomes and content, and Years 11–12 Life Skills courses.

More information on reporting on students accessing Life Skills outcomes and content can be found on NESA’s assessment and reporting page.

When to use the Personalised Reporting Scale for a student with disability

For students with disability whose learning program is based on syllabus outcomes that are different from the age/stage of their peers, teachers may use the Personalised Reporting Scale (refer to 3.2.5 in the (CPPAR) policy for the scale) to report on student achievement. This may be particularly appropriate for primary-aged students who do not have access to Life Skills courses.

Decisions about reporting for students with disability should be made in consultation with parents/carers and report on personalised goals and outcomes identified through the collaborative curriculum planning process. Teachers should also seek advice from their school's Learning and Support Team.
