Students with disability

The Curriculum Policy standards outline the reporting requirements for students with disability who need personalised planning and interventions.

Reporting using grade scales:

  • When a student’s learning program aligns with the same syllabus outcomes as their age/stage-based peers, teachers must report the student’s achievement using the grade scales outlined in the Curriculum Policy standards.
  • Adjustments made to support students should not limit their access to the full range of grades or marks.
  • Teachers should include information about these adjustments in the comment section of the report.

Reporting on life skills outcomes in secondary:

Grades are not required when reporting on student achievement in relation to Life Skills outcomes.

For more information, refer to NESA’s assessment and reporting page.

When to use the Personalised Reporting Scale

The Personalised Reporting Scale may be used to report on achievement for students with disability whose learning program is based on syllabus outcomes that differ from the age/stage of their peers. This is particularly relevant for primary-aged students who do not access secondary Life Skills courses. Refer to the Curriculum Policy standards for details about the scale.

Decisions about reporting for students with disability should:

  • be made in consultation with parents and carers
  • focus on personalised goals and outcomes identified through the collaborative curriculum planning process
  • include input from the school's Learning and Support Team.
