There is a wide range of resources on sustainability education that provide information, advice, case studies and teaching and learning materials.

Department resources

Environmental and zoo education centres provide advice and resources on teaching sustainability education and implementing sustainable practices.

School Infrastructure NSW – Environmental sustainability provides information and advice on energy, water and waste management to create more sustainable schools.

HSIE key learning area – curriculum provides programming support, resources and professional learning. Geography, in particular, investigates sustainability issues and asks students to consider personal and collective responses for a sustainable future.

Science key learning area – curriculum provides programming support, resources and professional learning. In both the Science and Technology K-6 and Science 7-10 syllabuses there are opportunities for scientific investigations relating to sustainability and, in K-6, for designing and producing using sustainable materials or as sustainable solutions.

Creative arts key learning area – curriculum provides resources that use sustainability as a learning context, such as Waste as art on the Visual arts page.

Learning outside – school site as a context K-6 (DOCX 59KB) maps learning activities outside in the school grounds across each stage of learning K-6 in science and technology, geography, history and mathematics.

HSIE Sustainability – Learning across the curriculum cross curriculum priorities teacher resource K-10 (DOCX 126 KB) plots the organising ideas of sustainability across geography and history teaching and learning.
