The learning environment

Students are recognised, respected and valued when schools enable them to connect, suceed and thrive.

An enabling school culture is one that:

  • Recognises student effort, not just excellence.
  • Respects and understands the learning environment and experience for every student will be quite different.
  • Supports and builds students’ belief in their ability to take actions and complete learning tasks.

Schools can provide learning experiences that contribute to the development of individual character traits and positive group dynamics.

For example, create a whole-school wellbeing program and encourage staff and students to engage.

Strategies for strengthening the five domains of wellbeing can be found on the Department's website at Wellbeing framework for schools.

Digital Lunchbreak

The Office of the Advocate for Children and Young People (ACYP) has designed the Digital Lunchbreak website to assist children and young people with finding online resources and activities to do at home in their lunchbreak, around learning hours and on weekends.
