Additional resources for support in times of crisis
Schools play a critical role in maintaining connection and engagement with students and families during periods of uncertainty and community unease. Below are some resources and supports that are available to schools.
Within the department
The Multicultural Education unit promotes intercultural understanding, anti-racism, social inclusion in schools, support for English language learners, students from refugee backgrounds and newly arrived students and resources and advice to counter religious intolerance.

- Strengthening harmony and building resilience in school communities: Advice for schools (PDF 267 KB) provides advice to schools about building and maintaining school community harmony and includes suggested responses for managing community disharmony.
- Cultural inclusion – the department’s webpage exploring culturally inclusive practice at the whole school level.
- Supporting Aboriginal Children – the department has partnered with the Secretariat of National Aboriginal and Islander Child Care (SNAICC) to develop a range of resources for services that provide early childhood education and care to Aboriginal children.
- Re-imagining Evaluation: A Culturally Responsive Evaluation Framework – this framework highlights the importance of centring Aboriginal students, their families, and their communities at the heart of evaluation methodology and processes.
- Building a culturally responsive Australian teaching workforce – the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership toolkit and report providing resources to support the cultural responsiveness of teachers and leaders to enhance their teaching practice.

EAL/D education webpages provide an overview of EAL/D learner support including delivery and funding.
- Henry Parkes Equity Resource Centre has a large collection of materials to support schools. These include resources for trauma, resilience and wellbeing including specialist counsellor resources.

- Engaging communities – information about family-school partnerships, examples of practice, research, resources and professional learning to promote positive community relations with parents from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
- Reconciliation in education – Narragunnawali supports schools and early learning services in Australia to develop environments that foster a higher level of knowledge and pride in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contributions.
