Mandatory pre-requisites for pre-service teachers
To be eligible to complete a professional experience placement in a NSW public school you must:
- complete the following requirements
- ensure that the completion date of the ASCIA Anaphylaxis e-training course is up to date (it expires after 2 years)
- present the certificates for completed mandatory training and your signed Pre-service teacher acknowledgement to the school prior to or on the first day of your professional experience placement.

1: Working with Children Check Verification and Placement Registration for Pre-service Teachers
In addition to completing a Working with Children Check (WWCC), you must also have your WWCC verified by the Department of Education before your first placement.
To have your WWCC verified by the Department you must:
- Complete the online Pre-service Teacher Registration Form using the Guide to Completing the Pre-service Teacher Registration Form (see link below)
- Verify your registration submission by clicking ‘here’ on the email received within 2 hours of submitting the online registration form.
Note: You will receive an email confirming that your WWCC verification when you complete the registration process. This email is only provided once and will not be updated if you renew your WWCC. Tracking of WWCC expiry dates happens automatically through our IT system.
- *If you are a current or past employee of the department, you are also required to complete the Pre-service Teacher (PST) Registration Form. For more information about this, please access the Placement registration FAQs for PSTs who are employees or are applying for approval to teach available from the ‘Resources’ section below.
To complete your WWCC verification you will need to present photo ID on your first day of placement.
A paid WWCC is only required for internships or placements where a pre-service teacher is receiving payment from the department (including scholarship holders). A factsheet is available for further information
2: Child Protection Awareness Training (CPAT)
- Log into the Staff Portal from education.nsw.gov.au
- Scroll down to MyPL on right hand side of page and select.
- Search for “Child Protection Awareness”
- Select the relevant training module.

3: Aboriginal Cultural Education - Let's take the first step together
This training only needs to be completed once. A certificate is provided on completion of this training. To access this training:
- Log into the Staff Portal from education.nsw.gov.au
- Scroll down to MyPL on right hand side of page and select.
- Search for “Aboriginal Cultural Education” or select “Mandatory Training” from the top menu
- Select, enrol into and launch the relevant training module.

4: Anti-Racism Policy
This training only needs to be completed once. A certificate is provided on completion of this training. To access this training, please refer to the steps listed in sections 2: and 3: above.
5: Code of Ethics & Conduct
This training only needs to be completed once. A certificate is provided on completion of this training. To access this training, please refer to the steps listed in sections 2: and 3: above.

6. ASCIA-Anaphylaxis e-training course
- A certificate is provided on completion of the training. This certificate will be validated at the school once the pre-service teacher demonstrates the correct use of a trainer EpiPen. This training needs to be completed every two years.
