Induction for pre-service teachers
An effective induction will help prepare pre-service teachers for a successful professional experience placement. It will make pre-service teachers feel welcome in your school and provide them with a clear understanding of the school's expectations.
Four steps (with supporting documents) make up the induction for pre-service teachers:
1: Mandatory pre-requisites for pre-service teachers
To be completed by the pre-service teacher prior to placement.
This is a list of the mandatory requirements for pre-service teachers to complete prior to placement.
This document will be provided to initial teacher education providers to distribute to their pre-service teachers.
2: Pre-service teacher acknowledgement
To be completed by the pre-service teacher prior to placement.
The pre-service teacher submits this acknowledgement to the school.
This document will be provided to initial teacher education providers to distribute to their pre-service teachers.
3: Onboarding of pre-service teachers
To be completed by the school.
The Onboarding of Pre-service Teachers Checklist will guide schools through clearing pre-service teachers to commence placement and providing them with their IT systems access.
The new onboarding process involves checking ID, screening in the NTBE list, confirming completion of mandatory training and granting access to department and local school IT systems and hardware via eCPC and AMU/MSA.
Some schools may choose to invite the pre-service teacher to an in person pre-placement meeting. At this meeting, some or all of the ‘day 1’ actions listed in the checklist may be completed.
For detailed instructions on the eCPC/AMU (or MSA) process, please refer to the Quick Reference Guide provided below.

4: Guidelines for the supervision of pre-service teachers
To be used by the school.
This document provides teachers who supervise pre-service teachers with best practice guidelines for a quality experience for all involved in professional experience placements.
Schools may wish to include additional activities and information relevant to their school, location, team and/or role requirements using the fillable sections of the document.
Please note that prior to commencing a placement, a pre-service teacher must first be onboarded into your school by your school’s professional experience coordinator, principal or relevant administrative staff member. For details about this process, please refer to step 3 above.
