SLI Director Joanne Jarvis and Principals Corinna Roberston and Karen Magara spent three days in Griffith delivering leadership focused professional learning to principals, assistant principals, and head teachers from 19 schools across the Griffith Network.

More than 60 middle leaders and 19 principals took part during three days of sessions with topics covered including the moral imperative of public education, leading high performing teams and building strong and relational trust across school communities.

Griffith Network Director, Educational Leadership, Jayne Gill, described the SLI team’s leadership knowledge and experience as “invaluable” in helping to build depth and quality of leadership across the network which, in turn, improves student outcomes.

“They present leadership research and combine it with their own experiences to make the learning relevant to everyday practice in classrooms and across schools,” she said.

Relieving Principal at Hanwood Public School, Gary Workman, said having the SLI team spend time with local school leaders and teachers was extremely valuable.

“Having Jo, Karen and Corinna from the SLI visit Griffith to present the professional learning to principals and middle leaders allows all participants to take wonderful leadership knowledge back to their schools. Implementing the ideas learnt then benefits their students and school communities,” he said. “It is great to have this professional learning opportunity in our region.”

Principal at Griffith North Public School, Susan Bourne, said the support the SLI professional learning provides for middle leaders is vital.

“Middle leaders play such a crucial role in all schools and this program gives all middle leaders an opportunity to builds leadership skills beyond the classroom,” she said.

It is the second year in a row the SLI team has visited the Griffith network. Ms Jarvis described the groups that participated as “brilliant and engaged”.
