The art of mentoring in our schools
The SLI’s mentoring and coaching team visited Albury and Tamworth recently to deliver the Lead and Aspire Mentoring Program (LAMP) to teachers and leaders keen to improve their mentoring practice.
Almost 30 staff in total attended ‘The Skill and Art of Mentoring’ conference held at Lavington East Public School and the Tamworth Education Office. The event is the first component of LAMP, ahead of online PL and self-paced learning delivered over Terms 1 and 2.
In addition, 115 teachers and leaders attended a LAMP conference in Parramatta, and another 24 attended an online session. Feedback from all 4 events showed it was an inspiring and practical learning opportunity which will help mentors nurture the school leaders of the future.
This is the second cohort of LAMP, a 16-week program that develops the mentoring expertise and skills of current and aspiring leaders and teachers. Participants increase their understanding of the purpose of mentoring, develop practical mentoring skills, and build and maintain mentoring relationships.
Applications for the next cohort of LAMP will open soon for interested DoE staff.
