Targeted professional learning

Career and Workplace Learning team deliver targeted professional learning to careers advisers, transition advisers, teachers, and staff to strengthen post-school pathways for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, high potential and gifted students, students with disability, and those who speak English as an additional language or dialect (EAL/D).

The NSW Department of Education is responsible and committed to ensuring that students with disability and additional learning and support needs can access high-quality education at every stage of their educational pathway and are learning to their fullest capability.

To ensure we meet our commitment the Department has developed professional learning designed to increase knowledge and understanding on providing equitable pathways for students with disability, utilising pathways resources, programs and strategies that are inclusive of students with disability.

Participants will undergo a series of three online learning modules developed to ensure consistent understanding of policy, programs and available support.

Aim of delivery is to strengthen teacher capability to:

  • implement the inclusive education policy for students with disability in post school transition.

  • utilise the supports available for students with disability.

  • support career development for students with disability.

Content to be delivered:

  • Disability in Australia and the context of tertiary studies within and beyond NSW public schools.

  • Processes and planning - equitable access to in-school supports and resources to improve post school outcomes for students with disability.

  • Sharing knowledge and information to better support the implementation of post school transition planning for students with disability.

Careers advisers, transition advisers, learning and support teams and staff supporting the transition of students with disability.



Professional learning for careers advisers, transition advisers, teachers and EAL/D teachers supporting senior students, school counsellors, year advisers and executive staff. Designed to:

  • increase knowledge and understanding about the refugee experience and its impact,
  • demonstrate collaborative practices within schools and
  • offer strategies on how to effectively communicate with students from refugee backgrounds and their families.
