About this report

The Student item analysis (writing) report shows how a student has performed against each criterion in the writing rubric.

Note: The writing rubric is applied across years 3 to 9. The criterion description for each score is mapped to the stage and outcome where the skill first appears in the NSW K-10 English syllabus. Teaching strategies are mapped to the syllabus outcome.

How to use the report

The Student item analysis (writing) report focuses on writing only.

Select the School, Assessment and Student. Optional slicers for Enrolment year, Scholastic year, Specific group type and Specific group may help further refine the list of student names.

Click on any of the column headers to sort the data.

Click the links in each row to view relevant Teaching Strategies.

When opening this report by clicking the icon on the Student summary, the slicers will not show selections but a warning will appear confirming that the report has been populated using pre-selected values. Select 'Reset all slicers' to clear the preselection and select a new student.

What should I look for?

Explore how a student has performed across criteria in NAPLAN writing. Consider both the student score and the maximum score available for each criterion. This may help identify broad areas for attention, differentiated teaching or further investigation.
