Updated resources

In response to valuable feedback from schools, we've updated some of our resources for English 3–6 to ensure materials are current, relevant, and effectively supporting teaching practices.

There have been changes to the content points based on the distributed learning model to strengthen student understanding throughout the year.

Term 3 Week 1 2024

The mentor texts for three Stage 3 English sample units 8, 15 and 16 have been updated. The revised units will be available on the English Year 3–6 units webpage in Term 3. The updated English 3–6 Term 4 mentor and supporting text list can be accessed now at English Year 3–6 units under ‘Mentor and supporting texts’.

Term 4 mentor and supporting texts changes:

  • Stage 3, first year – Unit 8
    • '1854 Do You Dare? Eureka Boys' updated to 'The one and only Ivan'
  • Stage 3, second year – Unit 15
    • 'Mahtab's Story' updated to 'Queenie in seven moves'
  • Stage 3, second year – Unit 16
    • 'Mahtab's Story' updated to 'Azaria: A True History'.

Term 1 Week 10 2024:

  • Stage 2, first year – Unit 3
    • Additional content points included
      • Creating written texts: use declarative sentences to provide facts or state a viewpoint
      • Creating written texts: use imperative sentences to advise, provide instructions, express a request or a command
      • Creating written texts: use exclamatory sentences to emphasise a point or express a strong emotion
  • Stage 3, first year – Unit 3
    • Additional content points included
      • Creating written texts: make choices about verbs and verb groups to achieve precision and add detail
      • Creating written texts: experiment with the placement of adverbial clauses, to modify the meaning or to add detail to a verb or verb group
      • Creating written texts: use capital letters at the beginning of a sentence, to indicate proper nouns, for headings and subheadings, to indicate the beginning of a poetry line, for emphasis, and when using acronyms
      • Creating written texts: use a comma to separate a subordinate clause or a phrase from the main clause, or to separate information within a sentence, or to separate items in a list
  • Stage 3, second year – Unit 11
    • Additional learning points included
      • Creating written texts: maintain correct noun–pronoun referencing, subject-verb agreement and use temporal, conditional and causal connectives to build cohesive links across a text.

Term 1 Week 5 2024:

  • Stage 2 scope and sequence
    • Content point added to Year 4 Term 2 (late)
      • Creating written texts: use adjectival clauses with noun groups to add information to subjects and objects
  • Detailed example – Component A teaching and learning
    • Minor amendments to the organisation of 'Reading comprehension and vocabulary' content
  • Stage 2 First year – Unit 1
    • Minor amendment to the Component A table.

Additional content points have been included in the following units, which can be found on the English 3–6 units webpage, to ensure learning is distributed across units. Due to the addition of content, some lessons and exemplars have required adjustments.
