Transforming modern languages classrooms

Identify and articulate what’s observable in classrooms and why these aspects are important, in relation to the Modern Languages K–10 Syllabus.

The posters can be used for teacher self-reflection, lesson observations and faculty discussions.

Important aspects include:

  • using the target language to communicate, focusing on a spiral approach to language learning
  • interacting with spontaneity, exchanging and negotiating meaning
  • linking content directly to students’ personal worlds
  • ensuring all students are central to lesson design, with inclusive language, approaches and resources
  • backward mapping content to allow for strong foundations for future learning.
