Multi-age 3–6, mathematics, Year A – Unit 12

This 2-week, Year A unit introduces the big idea that understanding relationships between the properties of 2D shapes helps visualise and organise spaces in the world.

Syllabus

Syllabus outcomes from Mathematics K–10 Syllabus (2022) © NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) for and on behalf of the Crown in right of the State of New South Wales, 2024.

Students are provided opportunities to:

  • explore, describe and classify two-dimensional shapes according to their properties
  • investigate the symmetry properties of two-dimensional shapes
  • establish an understanding of the relationship between the properties of two-dimensional shapes, perimeter (Stage 3) and area.
