Multi-age 3–6, mathematics, Year B – Unit 20

This unit develops the big idea that our number system extends infinitely to very large and very small numbers.

In this 2-week unit, students are provided opportunities to:

  • extend the place value system to tenths and hundredths and make connections between fractions and decimal notation (Stage 2)
  • select strategies flexibly to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication and division problems, including money and budgeting (Stage 2)
  • create and interpret grid maps and locate positions on grid maps (Stage 2)
  • determine benchmark percentage discounts (Stage 3)
  • connect decimals, percentages and fractions (Stage 3)
  • explore the use of brackets and the order of operations. (Stage 3).
