Numeracy for EAL/D learners
Purpose
This professional learning supports Years 3 to 12 teachers of EAL/D learners to understand their students’ numeracy learning needs and increases their knowledge of evidence-based strategies to improve students’ numeracy learning across KLAs.
Who should participate?
EAL/D specialist teachers and KLAs teacher from Stage 2 to 6.
One Executive member and up to 3 other staff members, including the EAL/D specialist teacher, are invited to register (maximum 4 participants per school).
Mode of delivery
Blended learning - a mix of self-paced and facilitator-led learning delivered via MS Teams.
Content
Blended learning with a mandatory e-learning component which must be completed before participating in facilitated sessions.
The course consists of 6 modules: a mandatory e-learning, and 5 facilitated sessions. Each module is 2 hours duration.

Completing this course will help you to:
- strengthen your understanding of EAL/D learners, the EAL/D Learning Progression and the National Numeracy Learning Progression.
- identify and target the numeracy learning needs of EAL/D learners who may bring varying levels of English language proficiency and familiarity with Australian schooling as well as very different understandings of mathematics and numeracy to the classroom.
- apply your knowledge to scenarios based on different schools and your own teaching and learning units.
